When I was younger, I went through a phase of listening to a lot of Nat King Cole. One of my favorite songs was "The Party's Over". It's sad and wistful, leavened with Cole's honeyed voice. Here are the lyrics:
The party's over
It's time to call it a day
They've burst your pretty balloon
And taken the moon away
It's time to wind up the masquerade
Just make your mind up the piper must be paid
The party's over
The candles flicker and dim
You danced and dreamed through the night
It seemed to be right just being with him
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend
The party's over
It's time to call it a day
Now you must wake up, all dreams must end
Take off your makeup, the party's over
It's all over, my friend
It's all over, my friend
Change is on the wind here at Shirley Ground Zero. It remains to be seen whether what grew here will remain, grown stronger and better, or whether that tree must be replaced with something else.

Here's hoping that whatever change is wrought, is for the best.
Gotta say I'd miss your blog if it went away, though.
Thanks, AB. I've often felt pretty lonely, lately.
J.R. I'd miss your blog too. I'm not big on commenting but I am a constant reader and lurker.
I'm probably almost old enough to be your grandad. I've been lonely all my life. I've always felt like I was born out of my time.
Some folks are just that way. At times I value my solitude but I also feel the pain of loneliness more than most I think.
It never get's easier but you do get used to it.
Here's a little tune from some guys I used to know fairly well. One of them lives just a few miles down the road from me these days.
E Pluribus Funk - Loneliness
Loneliness cries deep from my soul,
Keeps trying to tell me about the world growing so cold.
Too many people trying to take from my Earth,
But we can't live without controlling our birth.
Deep inside a voice cries out for you,
It's not alone 'cause, people, I been cryin' too.
If we don't stop what we all see is wrong,
I guarantee you mankind won't live long.
CHORUS
There's a land, a glorius land,
It's right here on Earth.
Understand what you can from the land,
Your life is it's worth.
Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh-oh.
Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh-oh.
Woah-oh, woah-oh, woah-oh-oh.
To face the problems that everyone's found,
We must replace what we took out of the ground.
Pray for your brother, let your soul find a way,
Help one another, oh, please listen to what I say.
CHORUS
Loneliness ...
Oh ..., I can't get away from loneliness ...
Yeah, loneliness ... oooo ...
Loneliness ...
Yeah, loneli- ... loneli- ... lo- ... neliness ...
I just can't get away from loneli- ...loneliness ...
Yeah, ... yeah ...
Loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
Can't get away from loneliness ...
