I'm not sure whether to laugh through the tears, or cry through the laughter. One week, and it's bye-bye, Buttress!

Oh that is just SO pathetic... sigh... And we wonder why kids have NO knowledge of geography or how to make change.

I think his answers to 15 & 16 are my favorites.

I wondered where the kids I'm now in the midst of came from...

Now I know.

(I'm near 40, back in school at Augusta Tech's Thomson campus and I've been astounded at the sheer ignorance of my "peers".)

Hey, he got #7 right!

And 29! And 30!

I suspect that just going down the line and throwing out random choices (I take it this was Multiple Choice, or Matching?) would give as high a correct score.

How sad that he wouldn't attempt the essay. Any reasonable attempt with a defense of his reasoning could be worth full credit.

October Revolution, 1917.

World War I (start, finish. Whichever).

World War II.

Creation and use of atomic weapons.

Assasination of J.F.K.

American witdrawal from Viet Nam.

Cultural Revolution in China.

Glasnost/Perestroika.

Sept. 11, 2001.

I didn't accept 2001, since it didn't happen in the 20th Century. I also did not accept any of the essays offering the Civil War.

I *would* have even accepted their own birth, if they gave me interesting justification.

I don't know how you managed to stay there as long as you did John. You're a better man than I in that respect.

I'd have told the administration to shove it about 30 days into this kind of job.

Here's hoping you have better opportunities in the future.

Joe

P.S. - Just think. When you are my age these idiots will be running the country. Thank God I'll be gone by then.

oh dear... ugh.
Not too out of line from what I'd expect from some I went to school with though. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on whether it's a "kids these days" or just a "some kids any day" issue.

My vote for the essay is the rise of collectivist/evolutionary* political ideals to the forefront in the early 20th c, particularly as demonstrated in the election of FDR.

The man fundamentally reshaped what America *was*, just prior to it becoming the dominant cultural force on the world stage. The repercussions of that are going to last millennia.

* in the political/philosophical sphere. Ain't got no bones to pick with the biological model.

That History test makes me feel old. There's only one question that happened before I was born, and most of it, I was old enough to remember as current events. It looks like it was fill-in-the-blank with a list of answers to chose from. Or, was it multiple choice?

Fill-in with a word bank.

After grading four sessions, I can unfortunately say several folk chose a lack of African Americans as the reason for the U.S. withdrawal from 'Nam...
