Endings and Beginnings
Last night I used clippers, first with a guard, and then without, to buzz my hair down to stubble. I got into a steaming shower with a tub of Noxzema and a Mach 3, and reduced the stubble to bare skin. It was time-consuming, and at times painful- I even cut myself once or twice- but I cut away all the old growth. It was time to let it go, and now it's time to let something new grow.

Looks great! Three major difficult moments in my life, I cut waist-length hair off to about an inch in length. It sounds corny, I know, but I think there's a lot of energy in hair, even if only symbolic. Last time, I kept the hair and got rid of the source of my misery. :P But I always know I have that in reserve- that I dare to shear it off. Again, however corny it sounds, I think I have absolute power over that, and I don't need it to be a woman or a person or anything. It's just window dressing. The cue-ball thing is harder for a woman to pull off, but on a guy, it looks well-hot, so that's a fringe (or un-fringed?) benefit for you. Well done, John.
It's a bit shocking, at first. But, then I thought it was indicative of a desire to "start fresh" in your life.

There's a line - "cutting off your past with six inches of hair." It's true, too; I've shed down to an inch and changed colors when starting afresh.
Any thoughts on a goatee? They seem to aesthetically balance out the shiny top well. That said, are you planning to stay bald? There are some nice waxes for the chrome dome look, but the amount of shaving - while easier as you get used to it - makes it a higher-maintenance hairstyle than trimming short hair.
I've had a goatee before, and I'm considering it (Jordy liked longer hair and no facial hair) again.
If I do grow a goat, it'll be over the Christmas holidays, so I won't spend any time looking ragged in the classroom...
It does take a lot of work to stay slick. I'll probably stay very short for the winter, and see how I feel come Spring. Fall's usually my favorite season, but I'm betting Spring will be, this year. New life.
